“If you have a strong purpose in life, you don’t have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.”
― Roy T Bennett
We all want to be successful. We are all born with a desire to be better, to do something great with our lives. That’s why we dream so much as kids. But how do you do that? How do you create the life of your dreams (especially now that you have so many responsibilities)? Obviously, you need to set goals, have a plan and work hard, but the most important thing you need is a personal mission statement.
Most companies have a mission statement which explains what their purpose is for business. Well, we all need to do the same in our personal lives. We need to know why we want to do the things we want to do. Understanding your “why” is the secret to success. It is the thing that will keep you working on your goals when you’re exhausted. It is the reason you’ll keep going when you have a set-back, get knocked down, or rejected. Ultimately, if your “why” is strong enough, it will be the reason you don’t give up.
If you don’t have a personal mission statement yet, here are some questions to help you develop one:
- What is your motivation behind your goals?
- What inspires you?
- What cause are you working towards?
- Why is it so important now to do what you want to do?
- What specific result(s) are you after?
- What is your core belief?
As you answer these questions, money should not be on the list. Money is a result of your efforts, but it won’t be enough to keep you going during challenging times. Here’s an article that lists the personal mission statement of 5 famous CEO’s. They’ve all made lots of money, but it was never the driving force. And just in case you need more motivation to create your “why” statement check out this video from Motiversity – What Is Your Why? ( You can also subscribe to their YouTube channel here.)
